4S 5A LiFePO4 Capacitor Active Balancer, now available from DenCo!

Most lithium iron phosphate batteries have passive balance management systems (BMS) that use resistive balancing to allow slower-charging cells to “catch up” during the charge phase of a battery’s cycle life. Often this helps for closely matched cells that only gradually drift apart in capacity over time. This passive balancing doesn’t do much for larger ranges in cell age or capacity.

Active balancing uses energy transfer between cells to equalize the voltage across a 4-series pack. No energy is burned off, but is actively transferred to lower voltage cells.

By switching of parallel then series relays, charge can be moved between cells so the whole pack performs better in spite of weaker ones, both in charging and in discharging of the battery.

Failure to understand the concepts involved with cell management can result in battery failure and injury. This item will not come with instructions, and assumes you understand how active balancers should work in a DIY battery pack.

Specifications:

• 3S or 4S use. If 3S, the last “B4+” lead will be unused.
• Working voltage: 2.7V to 4.2V; can be used with li-ion, LiFePO4.
• Connect leads to cell groups before connecting to board.
• Can be used for battery capacities from 30Ah to 300Ah.
• Balance Current from 0 to 5.5A; the larger the difference between cells, the larger the current.
• Balancing current consumption: 12mA.
• Standby current consumption: 0.1mA.
• Will enter Standby mode when B1 voltage is lower than 2.7V.
• 2 ounces copper thickness PCB.
• RUN pad is bridged, can be de-soldered and a switch added to manually turn on/off.
